The Meaning of Skinhead

Skinhead means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. What outsiders think of us doesn't
matter and never will. What counts is what the culture means to skins themselves. Over the last 25 years,
much has changed for both good and bad. But the traditional values of the skinhead culture live on.
Values that mean being proud of yourself, your family, your town, your working class roots and your
country. Being a skinhead is about always fighting for what you believe is right, and backing up a mate
even when you know he or she is wrong. It's about being the first to open a beer at a party and the last to
leave. It's about thinking for yourself and knowing that nobody is better than you. It's about listening to
street music when the mugs are listening to the crap in the charts. And as has been said many times
before, skinhead is a way of life, one that lives on in your heart long after you've hung up your boots and
braces. No other culture offers the same sense of belonging, of brotherhood, that skinheads offer each
other across the globe. And that's why we'll still be hanging about on street corners in 25 years time.
